Blue-and-Garnet Success in Prague, Draw in Istanbul, and Basque Victory in the Champions League

Barcelona achieved a valuable away victory (2-4) against the combative Slavia Prague, while Galatasaray and Atletico Madrid drew one goal each. Athletic Club defeated Atalanta 2-3 in Bergamo, in a vibrant Champions League matchday. The Catalan team keeps alive the hope of securing their direct pass to the round of 16, a goal that could be achieved on the last matchday of the group stage against Copenhagen at the Spotify Camp Nou. The first half of the match in Prague was contested, with a score of 2-2. Fermín López scored two goals (min. 34 and min. 42) to reverse Kusej’s initial lead, before an own goal by Robert Lewandowski at the edge of halftime. In the second half, Barcelona secured the victory with goals from Dani Olmo (2-3, min. 63) and Lewandowski himself (2-4, min. 71), although they regretted Pedro González ‘Pedri’s injury.

Draw in Istanbul complicates Atlético’s situation

The match between Galatasaray and Atlético de Madrid, played at the Ali Sami Yen stadium in Istanbul, ended in a one-all draw. Giuliano put Atlético ahead with a header in the 4th minute (0-1). However, Llorente, in an attempt to clear, scored an own goal in the 20th minute, after a cross from Sallai. The second half saw no changes in the score. This draw complicates Atlético’s aspirations, who have 13 points and are looking for a place among the top eight in the group stage. The Madrid team will play their options at the Metropolitano against the Norwegian Bodo Glimt.

Athletic comes back and takes the victory in Bergamo

The Athletic Club achieved a 2-3 victory against Atalanta in Bergamo, in the penultimate matchday of the Champions League group stage, after coming back in a spectacular second half from Gianluca Scamacca’s initial goal.
