Chicago, USA – The Chicago Bulls have officially announced that they will retire Derrick Rose’s number 1 jersey, an emblematic figure of the franchise, on January 24, 2026, at the United Center. The special ceremony will take place after the game against the Boston Celtics. The tribute to Rose will include a commemorative event in the venue’s atrium, where fans can relive the highlights of the point guard who marked an era in Chicago.

A Legacy Forged in Chicago

Derrick Rose was the first pick of the 2008 Draft for the Bulls, and quickly became the symbol of the franchise. In 2011, at the age of 22, he achieved a milestone by becoming the youngest player in NBA history to win the MVP award. During his eight seasons in Chicago, the point guard captivated the fans with his dynamic play and offensive ability, leaving an indelible mark despite the injuries that affected his career. In September 2024, Rose announced his retirement from the NBA after 16 seasons. In January 2025, he received a special recognition from the Bulls at the United Center. Rose’s jersey will be the fifth to be retired at the United Center, joining those of Jerry Sloan (4), Bob Love (10), Michael Jordan (23), and Scottie Pippen (33).

“Derrick represents the spirit of Chicago: talent, effort, and resilience. His legacy will be eternal in our franchise.”
