Barcelona – Alexia Putellas, the emblematic captain of Barcelona, has decided to end her time as a blaugrana player after 14 years of dedication and success with the first team. This was confirmed by the Catalan club this Tuesday.

The club has paid tribute to the footballer through its social media with a moving message: “A legacy. An icon. A captain. Eternal Alexia”, accompanied by an image of the Ballon d’Or kissing the club’s crest, with the caption “The legend of the game”.

Putellas joined Barcelona in 2012, at the age of 18, coming from Levante. After a career of 14 years, she leaves an impressive legacy, having won 10 Leagues, 10 Copa de la Reina titles, 6 Spanish Super Cups, and 4 Champions Leagues.

The player’s farewell will take place this Wednesday at 11:00 a.m., in a special event to be held at the Spotify Camp Nou. The presence of the entire squad, the coaching staff, as well as the acting president, Rafa Yuste, and the president-elect, Joan Laporta, is expected.

Alexia Putellas is leaving after having played 507 matches with the blaugrana shirt, a figure that could rise to 508 if she plays the last league match of the season against Real Sociedad at the Johan Cruyff. This makes her the second player with the most appearances in the history of the club, only surpassed by Melanie Serrano (516).

In addition to her collective achievements, Putellas holds the title of top scorer in Barcelona’s history, with 232 goals. Her individual awards include two Ballon d’Ors (2021 and 2022), a FIFA The Best trophy and a UEFA Player of the Year trophy. At the international level, with the Spanish national team, she has won a World Cup and two Nations Leagues.

Beyond the titles, Alexia’s impact is measured by her ability to elevate the level of women’s football and inspire future generations of players globally.

Alexia’s ability to overcome adversity is another of her great attributes. Injuries have been a constant challenge in her career, including the rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of the left knee suffered in July 2022, which kept her…
