Carlos Alcaraz begins his US Open defense against Reilly Opelka
The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, who won the US Open in 2022, will begin his participation in this year’s New York tournament by facing American Reilly Opelka, currently ranked 66th in the world.
The draw, held this Thursday in New York, determined that Alcaraz, positioned as number 3 in the world, could face Serbian Novak Djokovic in the semifinals.
Furthermore, Alcaraz’s path could cross with Russian Daniil Medvedev, US Open champion in 2021, in the fourth round, and with Ben Shelton (n.6) in a hypothetical quarter-final stage.
On the other hand, Italian Jannik Sinner, world number one and current champion, will debut against Czech Vit Kopriva (no. 87) and shares the same side of the draw with German Alexander Zverev.
