Alcaraz Advances to Quarterfinals at Queen’s After Epic Battle Against Munar
Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, seeded number one, secured his place in the quarterfinals of the Queen’s tournament in London after defeating his compatriot Jaume Munar in a close match that extended over three sets. Alcaraz won with partials of 6-4, 6-7(7) and 7-5, demonstrating once again his ability to fight and resist on the court. The match, which lasted three hours and 26 minutes, was a real test for the young tennis player, who faced a Munar in excellent form. In the next round, Alcaraz will face the winner of the match between American Reilly Opelka and Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech. Alcaraz, who has already surpassed his performance from the previous year in this tournament, achieved his best personal streak with fifteen consecutive victories. After a dominant first set, Alcaraz encountered Munar’s resistance, who forced a tie-break in the second set. Munar had several opportunities to close the set, but Alcaraz managed to stay calm and take the match to a decisive third set.“I can’t believe I’m here,” the Murcian stated after a brutal match in which he came back from a 2-4 deficit in the third set. “I didn’t give up,” he added, after leaving a spectacular Munar in his wake, who played one of the best matches of his life and still couldn’t overcome a tremendous Alcaraz, accustomed to suffering and who relived some of the moments of the Paris final against Jannik Sinner.
