DR Ready for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games
Santo Domingo – President Luis Abinader announced this Monday that the Dominican Republic is preparing to make history with the celebration of the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games. This sporting event, considered the most important in the region, will bring together more than 6,000 athletes competing for a total of 3,244 medals, marking the largest number in the history of the Games.
The Dominican government has made a historic investment of RD$315 million through the Dominican Olympic Committee. These funds are allocated to the preparation of athletes, including training, training camps, and payment to coaches. In addition, a 100% increase was implemented for high-performance athletes in the PARNI.
During the meeting “La Semanal con la Prensa”, held in the fencing pavilion of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, the president presented a detailed report on the progress in the remodeling of the sports facilities. These facilities will be key for the different competitions that will take place between July 24 and August 8.
The 2026 Games will feature 40 sports, 57 disciplines, and 63 modalities, totaling 483 sporting events. The competitions will be distributed across eight venues:
- 26 in the National District
- 23 in Santo Domingo
- 2 in Santiago
- 2 in Bonao
- 1 in Punta Cana
- 1 in Cabarete
- 1 in Baní
- 1 in Juan Dolio
The main objective of the 2026 Games is to promote inclusion, national unity, and the integration of various sectors, including sports clubs, universities, churches, businesses, and communities.
