In a race filled with emotions, Tyler Reddick competed with the hope of keeping his championship aspirations alive. The driver’s personal situation, with his newborn son facing health problems, added a layer of complexity to his participation in the competition. The little one, born in May, was diagnosed with a tumor in his chest that affects his heart, according to his wife, Alexa Reddick.

Before the race at The Roval at Charlotte Motor Speedway, where Reddick started from the pole position, the couple shared updates on their son’s health. The victory was crucial for Reddick, as he needed to secure his place in the fight for the Cup title.

Despite his efforts, Shane van Gisbergen took the victory, eliminating Reddick from the playoffs. Reddick finished in tenth position. After the race, Alexa Reddick shared details about her son’s condition on social media. The tumor is affecting the renal vein and artery, causing the heart to work harder than normal.

The little one will have to undergo surgery to remove his right kidney, as doctors determined that it no longer functions correctly.

Alexa also mentioned that her son remains happy, playing and interacting with the medical staff. The health situation of Reddick’s son became public the previous week in Kansas, where the little one was hospitalized at Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, showing signs of heart failure. Reddick expressed his happiness for his son’s improvement, although he acknowledged future challenges. He recognized that there are still obstacles to overcome before they can leave the hospital. Reddick, who reached the championship final last year, was below the cut line for the playoffs. After the race, the group of competitors was reduced from twelve to eight. Reddick, along with teammate Bubba Wallace, Ross Chastain and Austin Cindric, were eliminated. Reddick stated that the current situation in the championship is secondary to what is happening in his personal life. Denny Hamlin, co-owner of Reddick’s car, assured that the 23XI Racing team has provided its support and resources to ensure the best medical care for Reddick’s son. Hamlin expressed relief to know that there is now a defined path for the little one’s recovery. Reddick expressed gratitude for the support received and reflected on the emotional impact on his family. Reddick highlighted the large number of people who have offered their support. He acknowledged that this situation is the most difficult he has faced. The decision to compete in Kansas was made in conjunction with his wife, and although it was difficult, they both agreed. Reddick wanted to return to the hospital as soon as possible.
