Sean Strickland, suspended indefinitely after altercation at MMA event

UFC middleweight ex-champion Sean Strickland has been suspended from competition after being involved in an altercation with another fighter at an MMA event held in June in Las Vegas. The Nevada State Athletic Commission has indefinitely suspended 34-year-old Strickland for his involvement in the incident. It is a common practice for the commission to suspend a licensed athlete or coach until an official sanction is issued at a disciplinary hearing. Strickland’s case was on the commission’s monthly agenda on Wednesday, but a vote was taken to postpone his hearing to a future date. The incident took place at a Tuff-N-Uff event on June 29th in Las Vegas. Strickland entered the cage after a fighter he trains, Miles Hunsinger, suffered a submission loss to Luis Hernandez. Immediately after the victory, Hernandez taunted Hunsinger’s corner, which provoked a response from Strickland and fellow UFC fighter Chris Curtis. A video captured Strickland throwing a couple of punches at Hernandez. The UFC will almost certainly not announce a fight for Strickland until the matter is resolved. He has not fought since he failed to regain the 185-pound championship against Dricus Du Plessis in February.
