Alex Pereira Focused on White House Event After Fracture

UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira has revealed his plans following his recent victory and the injury sustained during the fight. Pereira, who regained his 205-pound title by knocking out Magomed Ankalaev in just 80 seconds at UFC 320, is now focusing on a possible fight at the UFC event at the White House in June. The rematch against Ankalaev was a confrontation that was resolved quickly, marking a triumphant return for Pereira after having lost the belt to the same rival in March. After the fight, Pereira was seen with an orthopedic boot on his left foot. Subsequently, in a public appearance in Rio de Janeiro, he confirmed that he suffered a fracture in his foot.

I had an X-ray in Las Vegas and then an MRI in Brazil. It showed a fracture in my foot, but I still don’t know what’s going to happen or how long the recovery will take. I think it’s good to focus on this fight [at the White House]. That’s something that interests me now.

Pereira, 38 years old, expects to be back in action in eight months, coinciding with the UFC’s visit to the White House on June 14.

Although Pereira was initially expected to challenge Jon Jones, after his victory, the fighter opted for a moment of silence in memory of Jones’ brother, Arthur Jones.

Despite not revealing an exact date for his return nor a specific opponent, Pereira has several options, including a title defense against Jiří Procházka or Carlos Ulberg, or a possible move up to heavyweight to face the winner of the fight between Tom Aspinall and Ciryl Gane. Pereira has experienced bone fractures previously, and it is expected that his recovery will allow him to be ready to compete within the expected timeframe.
