Kelvin Gastelum Misses Weight Again: A New Chapter in His Career

UFC veteran Kelvin Gastelum has once again faced weight issues, marking the fourth time in his career that he has failed to meet regulatory requirements.

This time, the incident occurred in the middleweight category, a fact that adds a new nuance to his history in the sport.

Gastelum, 33, weighed in at 191 pounds, exceeding the 185-pound limit set for his bout against Dustin Stoltzfus at UFC Noche, which took place on Saturday.

Despite this setback, Stoltzfus, who did meet the required weight, decided to go ahead with the fight. As compensation, he will receive 35% of Gastelum’s purse.

Gastelum won the fight by unanimous decision.

Gastelum’s (19-10) situation with weight is not new. Previously, when he competed in the welterweight category, he had similar difficulties. In 2014 and 2015, he failed to make the 170-pound weight on several occasions.

A notable incident was in 2016, when the UFC was forced to cancel a fight between Gastelum and Donald Cerrone because Gastelum significantly exceeded the allowed weight. The New York State Athletic Commission suspended Gastelum for six months as a result of this incident.

Following this event, the UFC forced him to move up to the middleweight division.
