Dustin Poirier, a prominent figure in the world of mixed martial arts, has made it clear that he has no plans to return to the octagon. However, he has opened an unexpected door: a possible boxing match against Nate Diaz. Poirier, 36, retired from the UFC in July, after a final appearance in his home state of Louisiana against Max Holloway. Although he has reiterated his intention not to fight again, a recent statement on social media has generated anticipation.

Zuffa Boxing, 12 rounds, me and Nathaniel, I would do it.

Poirier, referring to a possible confrontation with Diaz, added that it would be the only fight he would consider. The rivalry between Poirier and Diaz has history. In 2018, a fight was planned in the UFC, but it ultimately did not materialize. Both fighters have blamed each other for the cancellation. Diaz, 40 years old, left the UFC in 2022 to explore other opportunities. He debuted in professional boxing against Jake Paul in 2023, losing by unanimous decision. In his last appearance, he defeated Jorge Masvidal in July 2024. Diaz has not yet responded to Poirier’s proposal. Poirier, when referring to Diaz, expressed his feelings about the fight that never happened.

I’m retired, I’m done, but Nate is one who got away.

Zuffa Boxing’s announcement of a US broadcast deal with Paramount+ and CBS adds a new element to the equation.
