In a spectacular return to his homeland, Charles Oliveira demonstrated his resilience and talent by submitting Mateusz Gamrot in the main event of the UFC Fight Night held at the Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro. The victory came in the second round, at 2 minutes and 48 seconds, via a rear naked choke. This triumph occurs less than four months after the most brutal knockout loss of his career. Many in the mixed martial arts world were wondering if Oliveira was rushing back, but the Brazilian fighter dispelled any doubts with a dominant performance.

This triumph further solidifies Oliveira’s legacy in the UFC. He extended his UFC records for finishes (21) and submissions (17). In addition, he tied with Neil Magny for the most wins in UFC history with 24, surpassed only by Jim Miller with 27. Immediately after the victory, Oliveira reiterated his desire to face the BMF champion and ranked lightweight, Max Holloway. They had already faced each other in 2015, in a featherweight fight.
