Charles Oliveira vs. Mateusz Gamrot to Headline UFC Fight Night in Rio de Janeiro
The former UFC lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira, will face Mateusz Gamrot in the main event of next month’s UFC Fight Night.
Oliveira and Gamrot will face each other on October 11 in Rio de Janeiro, according to the organizers. This fight will mark Oliveira’s return to Brazil since March 2020.
Initially, Oliveira was scheduled to face Rafael Fiziev, but Fiziev withdrew last week due to an injury.
The UFC considered several opponents to replace Oliveira. Gamrot, for his part, publicly requested the fight with Oliveira with little notice.
Gamrot has a 4-1 record in his last five appearances, with his only loss against Dan Hooker in August 2024. Gamrot has notable wins over Rafael dos Anjos, Fiziev, and Arman Tsarukyan.
Oliveira seeks to recover from a technical knockout loss against Ilia Topuria in July.
UFC ranks Oliveira and Gamrot as numbers 4 and 8 in the organization’s lightweight rankings, respectively. The UFC Fight Night event will be held at the Farmasi Arena.
