Alex Pereira Focused on White House Event After Fracture

UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira has revealed his plans following his recent victory and the injury sustained in the fight. Pereira, who regained the 205-pound championship by knocking out Magomed Ankalaev in just 80 seconds at UFC 320, is focusing on a possible fight at the UFC event at the White House in June. After the fight, Pereira suffered a fracture in his left foot. In a public appearance in Rio de Janeiro, the 38-year-old wrestler commented on his injury and his possible return. I had an X-ray in Las Vegas and then an MRI in Brazil. It showed a fracture in my foot, but I still don’t know what will happen or how long the recovery will take. I think it’s good to focus on this fight [at the White House]. That’s something that interests me. Before this injury, Pereira had expressed interest in facing Jon Jones, but opted for a moment of silence in memory of Jones’ brother, Arthur Jones, who recently passed away.

Although an exact date for his return and a specific opponent have not been defined, Pereira has several options, including a title defense against Jiří Procházka or Carlos Ulberg, or a possible move up to heavyweight to face the winner of the fight between Tom Aspinall and Ciryl Gane.

Pereira has faced similar injuries in the past and has managed to recover within a timeframe comparable to what it would take to be ready for the June event.
