Concern in Milwaukee: Yelich could be out of action
The Milwaukee Brewers could be losing another of their key hitters for a while. Christian Yelich was replaced by a pinch hitter in the fifth inning against the Washington Nationals on Sunday due to a left hamstring issue. The team suffered an 8-6 defeat, adding their fifth consecutive loss. “It’s very likely we’ll have bad news about Yelich,” said manager Pat Murphy after the game.Milwaukee is already dealing with the absences of Jackson Chourio and Andrew Vaughn due to hand injuries. Chourio was placed on the injured list just before the start of Milwaukee’s season, and Vaughn appeared in one game before joining him. The Brewers also have starting pitcher Quinn Priester and reliever Jared Koenig out. After winning eight of their first 10 games, the Brewers have lost five in a row. The streak is the longest since June 2023. On Sunday, Murphy said that pitchers Brandon Sproat and Kyle Harrison “seem to be fine” after their knees were examined following Saturday’s loss. “Harrison’s wrist is sore, because when he fell, he hit his wrist, so we’re going to check it out,” Murphy said. “Sproat says he feels good.” Yelich, with a batting average of .314, a home run and 10 RBIs in 15 games, was the designated hitter on Sunday and went 0-2.He felt a slight pull in his hamstring and was undergoing imaging tests. There’s some fluid there, so let’s wait and see. He wanted to stay in the game, but… we have to be careful with these guys. It’s April.
