Connor Wong and the Red Sox Agree to Contract for 2024
Catcher Connor Wong and the Boston Red Sox have agreed to a one-year contract for $1,375,000, as announced on Thursday. The agreement was reached one day before the deadline for teams to offer contracts for the 2024 season to unsigned players on their 40-man rosters.
Wong also has the possibility of obtaining an additional $75,000 in performance bonuses.
The 29-year-old player, who has occasionally played first, second, third base and outfield, recorded a batting average of .190 with eight doubles and seven RBIs in 63 games last season. Of those games, 52 were as a starting catcher.
Wong, who came to the Red Sox from the Los Angeles Dodgers, has a career batting average of .245. In his five seasons in the Major Leagues, he has hit 23 home runs and accumulated 103 RBIs in 348 games.
Had an agreement not been reached, Wong would have been eligible for salary arbitration for the first time.
