MLB Bombshell! Carlos Correa on the verge of returning to the Astros
The Houston Astros are about to finalize an impactful trade to reacquire Carlos Correa, in a move that has surprised the fans. The news, which has generated great expectation, comes just hours before the closing of the MLB trade deadline.
Correa, who was Rookie of the Year and a two-time All-Star during his previous stint with the Astros, has waived his no-trade clause to facilitate the operation. In addition, he is expected to play at third base, sharing the infield with Jeremy Peña.
The Astros, initially looking for a left-handed hitter and a starting pitcher, were forced to rethink their priorities due to the possible absence of Isaac Paredes, who could miss the rest of the season due to a hamstring injury.
In addition, the team also added outfielder Jesús Sánchez in a trade with the Miami Marlins.
The details of what Minnesota will receive in return in both trades are not yet known.
Correa, 30 years old, has $91.5 million pending between 2026 and 2028, with club options from 2029 to 2032. These options are guaranteed if Correa meets certain playing time requirements. The Twins, motivated to reduce their payroll amid a change of ownership, are expected to assume part of Correa’s remaining salary to finalize the deal.
Correa, who was the first overall pick in the 2012 draft, was one of the key figures on the Astros team that won the World Series in 2017 and became one of the most successful franchises in the American League in recent years.
However, Correa’s numbers have declined this year. He batted .267/.319/.386 with seven home runs in 93 games.
