Adrian Houser Bolsters the White Sox

Veteran right-handed pitcher Adrian Houser has signed a one-year, $1.35 million contract with the Chicago White Sox.

Houser is scheduled to be the team’s opener on Tuesday against the Seattle Mariners, marking his season debut.

In a related move, the White Sox designated right-handed pitcher Yoendrys Gomez for assignment.

Initially, the White Sox had scheduled Bryse Wilson (0-2, 6.00 ERA) to start the game. Wilson, who has had 10 of his first 11 appearances as a reliever this year, has a record of 0-1 with an ERA of 7.20 in his three starts in May.

Houser, 32, holds a career record of 32-39 with one save and an ERA of 4.21. In 608 2/3 innings, he has recorded 244 walks and 484 strikeouts in 152 regular season games (104 starts) with the Milwaukee Brewers (2015, 2018-23) and the New York Mets (2024).

The Texas Rangers released Houser last Thursday after he had a 2-2 record with a 5.03 ERA in 39 1/3 innings during nine games (eight starts) for Triple-A Round Rock this season.

Gomez, 25, had a 0-0 record with an 8.10 ERA, allowing five hits, two walks and two strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings in three relief appearances this season. In his three-year career, Gomez is 1-1 with one save, a 5.23 ERA, 20 walks and 27 strikeouts in 31 innings in 18 relief appearances with the New York Yankees (2023-25), Los Angeles Dodgers (2025) and White Sox.

The Dodgers selected him from the Yankees via waivers on April 25, and the White Sox did the same from the Dodgers on May 10.
