Monastery Drives Brewers to Victory with Walk-Off Home Run in Extra Innings

In an exciting game that extended to the 11th inning, Andruw Monasterio hit a three-run home run that proved decisive for the Milwaukee Brewers’ victory over the Cincinnati Reds, with a final score of 6-5. This triumph not only marks the 14th consecutive victory for the Brewers, setting a new franchise record, but also represents the longest winning streak in MLB this season. The Brewers’ impressive streak is the longest in a single season since the Atlanta Braves and Seattle Mariners achieved 14-game winning streaks in 2022. This victory was another example of the Brewers’ ability to come back, being the eighth time they have achieved this during this streak. In the last 80 seasons, of the 24 teams that have achieved 14 consecutive victories, the Brewers are only the third team to obtain at least eight comeback wins. For the Reds, this loss means their thirteenth consecutive series lost against the Brewers. Elly De La Cruz scored thanks to a sacrifice fly in the eleventh inning, and Noelvi Marte hit a solo home run that brought the Reds closer on the scoreboard. Matt McLain hit a deep fly ball to center field, but Brandon Lockridge made the catch for the last out. Trevor Megill (4-2) allowed one run and one hit, striking out two in the tenth inning. Nick Mears earned his first save of the season. The Reds’ lefty, Joe La Sorsa (0-1), gave up three runs and three hits.
