Keibert Ruiz, Nationals catcher, to the injured list after head injury

Washington Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz was placed on the 10-day injured list this Tuesday after being hit in the head by a foul ball batted by his teammate Josh Bell.

According to the Nationals, Ruiz suffered a head contusion.

Faced with this situation, the team called up Drew Millas from Triple-A Rochester. Millas, in 52 games, batted .247 with four home runs and 25 RBIs.

The ball hit Ruiz after a rebound. The catcher held his head with both hands and immediately left the dugout, being replaced by Riley Adams.

Ruiz underwent a CT scan after his team’s 10-6 victory.

Bell, in that same inning, hit a sacrifice fly as part of a four-run fourth episode.

This incident marks the second time in five days that a Major League player has been injured in the dugout by a foul ball.

Rays pitcher Hunter Bigge was removed from the field in a concerning scene and transported to a hospital after being hit in the face by a line drive connected by Baltimore catcher Adley Rutschman the previous Thursday.

Bigge was placed on a board and gave the okay before being transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for tests. According to Rays manager Kevin Cash, he never lost consciousness and was able to converse with the paramedics.
