Junior Caminero will represent the Rays in the Home Run Derby

Tampa Bay Rays’ star hitter, Junior Caminero, who leads all American League third basemen in home runs, announced his participation in the Home Run Derby. The event will take place next Monday in Atlanta.

“I’m going to put on a show. I will try to put on a show so that the fans have the opportunity to meet me and see my power,” Caminero declared before Wednesday’s game against the Detroit Tigers. “Being there with all those other stars will be something very special.”

The 22-year-old continued to demonstrate his power by connecting his 22nd home run of the season in the seventh inning of Wednesday’s game. Currently, Caminero exhibits a batting average of .255, with 58 RBIs in 87 games played this season. Caminero joins the list of participants in the Home Run Derby, which already includes figures like Ronald Acuña Jr. of the Atlanta Braves, Cal Raleigh of the Seattle Mariners, James Wood of the Washington Nationals, Byron Buxton of the Minnesota Twins, and Oneil Cruz of the Pittsburgh Pirates. MLB still has to announce two more competitors to complete the group of eight hitters. Caminero was selected for the All-Star Game earlier this week, replacing the injured Alex Bregman of the Boston Red Sox. He becomes the fourth Tampa Bay player to compete in the Home Run Derby, following in the footsteps of Evan Longoria (2008), Carlos Pena (2009), and Randy Arozarena (2023).
