Pablo López to the Injured List with Forearm Issue

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Pablo López has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to a mild strain in his right forearm.

López’s injury occurred Friday night against Cleveland, when he stretched to throw a ball that bounced off his heel and reached the first baseman. Despite this, he pitched one more inning before leaving the game. An MRI performed on Saturday confirmed the injury.

López, who was the team’s primary starter at the beginning of the season, closes out a season marked by injuries with a 5-4 record and a 2.74 ERA in 14 starts. Previously, he missed 14 games due to a right hamstring strain in April and 80 games from June 5 to September 5 due to a right shoulder injury.

The Twins have called up right-handed pitcher Mick Abel from Triple-A St. Paul to take López’s place on the roster. Abel, acquired from Philadelphia in July in exchange for closer Jhoan Duran, had two appearances, one as a starter, for the Twins before being sent back on August 31. In four innings, he allowed 11 earned runs and 14 hits, with three walks.
