Shohei Ohtani confirms his participation in the 2026 World Baseball Classic
Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani has announced his participation in the 2026 World Baseball Classic with Team Japan.
Japan will seek to revalidate the title obtained in the 2023 Classic, where Ohtani was named Most Valuable Player (MVP).
The announcement was made through social media on Monday night.
Shohei Ohtani’s post
Ohtani returned to the mound last season after an absence of almost two years due to a second repair of the ulnar collateral ligament. In his post on Monday, he did not specify whether he will pitch for Japan in the tournament.
The World Baseball Classic will begin on March 5. Japan will be part of Group C, along with Australia, South Korea, Czech Republic, and Chinese Taipei. The United States will be in Group B.
Ohtani is coming off winning his second consecutive World Series title with the Dodgers and was awarded his fourth MVP award earlier this month.
