Shohei Ohtani continues his impressive season in the Major Leagues, hitting his 53rd home run to tie for the top spot in the National League. The Japanese star’s hit contributed to the Los Angeles Dodgers’ victory over the San Francisco Giants with a score of 7-5. Ohtani tied Kyle Schwarber of the Philadelphia Phillies, after a solid 403-foot hit to left field in the sixth inning. This was Ohtani’s 29th home run at Dodger Stadium this season, setting a new franchise record. Ohtani’s hit surpassed his own stadium record of 28 home runs, set last year, when he finished the season with a total of 54, achieving his third MVP award and his first in the National League.

I think the home run title will be great. But I think it’s just a byproduct of taking good at-bats, and he’s playing to win. If a walk is needed and they’re not pitching to him, take your walks. And if they make a mistake, he makes them pay.

In addition to his home run, Ohtani scored his career number 140 of the season. The outstanding performance of the multifaceted player has generated praise and arguments for a third consecutive MVP award.

I haven’t looked at any deep numbers or anything like that, but I think [the MVP is] Shohei. He pitches and hits. I think it’s obviously Shohei, in my opinion.

Max Muncy also contributed to the victory with a two-run home run in the first inning, while Michael Conforto and Tommy Edman also stood out with their hits for the Dodgers, who have secured their place in the playoffs. The Dodgers, who have accumulated four consecutive victories, lead the National League West Division by four games over the San Diego Padres, with seven games remaining. Jack Dreyer secured the victory with a perfect ninth, earning his fourth save of the season.
