Max Muncy Sets Dodgers’ Postseason Home Run Record

Los Angeles Dodgers slugger Max Muncy made history by hitting his 14th postseason home run, setting a new franchise record. This achievement occurred in Game 2 of the National League Championship Series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Muncy’s home run, a 412-foot blast over the center field fence in the sixth inning, broke the record he shared with Justin Turner and Corey Seager. This solo shot against starting pitcher Freddy Peralta extended Los Angeles’ lead to 3-1. The Dodgers finally won the game with a score of 5-1, taking a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

It means a lot to me. The Dodgers are a franchise that has been around for a long, long time. Many successful players have played in this organization. And to be able to break that record is huge for me.

Muncy highlighted the importance of having had the opportunity to play in so many postseason games, which reflects the team’s constant presence in the fight for the championship. This was Muncy’s 70th postseason game with the Dodgers. Turner played 86 games for Los Angeles between 2014 and 2022, while Seager participated in 61 games between 2015 and 2021. Muncy was close to setting the record in Game 1, where he hit a long shot to center field that was centimeters away from being a grand slam. That play, however, turned into an unusual 8-6-2 double play. Center fielder Sal Frelick attempted a spectacular catch, but the ball bounced off the top of the fence before he could control it, allowing the Brewers to force runners at home and third base. Muncy was asked after Tuesday’s game if he feared Frelick would make the catch upon seeing the ball’s trajectory.

I definitely thought I had caught it. That fence is so close to center field. I didn’t see the ball bounce at all. When I didn’t see it bounce, I thought I had caught it again. And I was about to get really frustrated. But I saw it sitting on the ground. That’s when I realized I didn’t have it.

Muncy also holds the Dodgers record with 60 postseason walks.
