Misiorowski’s Debut Affected by Injury

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski had to leave his Major League debut after suffering a slip on the front of the mound. This happened after holding the St. Louis Cardinals hitless for five innings last Thursday night. Misiorowski had just thrown three consecutive balls to Victor Scott to open the sixth inning when his foot landed strangely. After being examined by the Brewers’ medical staff, Misiorowski left the game and Nick Mears entered from the bullpen.

The right-hander, known for his velocity, struck out five batters and walked three in the first five innings. Scott eventually drew a fourth ball from Mears, and that walk was also charged to Misiorowski. Mears retired the following three batters, but Willson Contreras hit a clean single up the middle against Aaron Ashby in the top of the seventh inning, the first hit for St. Louis. Misiorowski demonstrated for much of the night the elite velocity that made him one of the best pitching prospects in the game. He reached 100 mph with each of the first three pitches he threw to Lars Nootbaar to start the game. Two pitches later, Nootbaar missed a 102.2 mph pitch. Thirteen of the 81 pitches Misiorowski threw, including 11 of his first 24, reached at least 100 mph.
