In that game, Garrett threw 28 pitches, including two four-seam fastballs, allowing RBI singles to Jurickson Profar and Ronald Acuña Jr.“He was having a hard time recovering,” Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said before the start of the series against the Phillies.Garrett, with a 3-5 record, three saves, and an ERA of 3.61 in 54 appearances this season, a career high, will receive a cortisone injection and could resume pitching a few days later.The Mets have called up José Castillo from Triple-A Syracuse to fill Garrett’s spot. Castillo has a 0-1 record with a 2.19 ERA in 14 relief appearances with New York.Also, Frankie Montas was transferred to the 60-day injured list.Regarding Francisco Álvarez, who suffered a sprain in his right thumb a week ago, has shown significant progress in his recovery.Álvarez has been taking batting practice on the field for the second consecutive day and could begin a rehabilitation assignment in the minor leagues on Wednesday or Thursday.

“I couldn’t believe it. Someone sent me a video of him batting here, at Citi Field,” Mendoza said. “I was like, ‘There’s no way this guy is batting’… That’s pretty impressive.”

Álvarez bats .323 with four home runs, 13 RBIs, and a 1.054 OPS in 21 games after spending a month in Triple-A. Overall, this season with the Mets, the 23-year-old is batting .265 with seven home runs and a .787 OPS in 56 games.
