The New York Mets reliever, José Buttó, was placed on the 15-day injured list this Friday due to an unspecified illness.
Mendoza also stated that he does not foresee Buttó needing a minor league rehab assignment. The 27-year-old right-hander, Buttó, has a 2-1 record with a 2.47 ERA in 31 relief appearances. His last outing was last Saturday in Pittsburgh, where he pitched for two innings. The Mets called up right-handed pitcher Chris Devenski from Triple-A Syracuse. This is the fourth time that 34-year-old Devenski has been called up this season and he has made four appearances with the Mets. We’re not going to go into details out of respect for Buttó, but we don’t anticipate this being long-term. We expect him to return right after the All-Star break.

On the other hand, Kodai Senga, who has been out of action since June 12 due to a right hamstring strain, will begin a rehabilitation assignment on Saturday with Double-A Binghamton. Mendoza reported that Senga will throw between 60 and 65 pitches and could soon return to the New York rotation, which has been affected by injuries.
Finally, there were no updates on reliever Dedniel Núñez, who was placed on the injured list on Thursday due to a sprain in his right elbow and could require Tommy John surgery for the second time. He is going to visit a doctor next week due to the holiday weekend. We’ll see how it goes tomorrow and then we’ll see how it responds and we’ll make a decision after that.
