Bryan Woo, Mariners’ Star Pitcher, Doubtful with Muscle Inflammation
Houston – Seattle Mariners pitcher Bryan Woo, who has been a key player for the team in the 2025 season, has been diagnosed with inflammation in the pectoral muscle. This situation creates uncertainty about his participation in the upcoming games, according to manager Dan Wilson before Saturday’s game against the Houston Astros. There are no defined plans yet for Woo’s next opening or when it might relaunch. “Obviously, he’ll want to get out [on the mound] as soon as possible,” Wilson added. Woo had an outstanding performance on Friday against the Astros, pitching five scoreless innings. However, upon returning to the dugout at the end of the fifth inning, he informed the Seattle coaching staff that he felt tightness in the area. As Woo prepared to pitch the bottom of the sixth inning, a reliever began to warm up in the bullpen as a precaution. After three warm-up pitches, Woo left the mound and retired to the dugout with an athletic trainer. The Mariners’ rotation could be one of the best and most solid among teams vying for a playoff spot, and Woo has been the most consistent and resilient player in the group. This season, Woo has maintained a 2.94 ERA in 30 starts, allowing only 137 hits in 186⅔ innings. His performance earned him a spot on the American League All-Star team. In his Friday outing against the Astros, Woo dominated the strike zone with fastballs at 96 to 97 mph and breaking pitches that grazed the edge of the plate. He allowed 1 hit and struck out 7 in 5 innings before the pectoral issue arose. The MRI revealed slight inflammation in his pectoral. Really, it’s something that is evaluated daily. We will continue to evaluate it every day, and we will know more in the next 24 to 48 hours, depending on how he responds to treatment.

The Mariners hope Woo recovers in time for the final week of the regular season and the playoffs. Seattle began Saturday’s game leading the Astros in the American League West Division by one game. He’s had an incredible season, in terms of his health. This is a guy who has found a great mental space, and that has been key for him, and if he gets there, it’s really difficult.
