Glasnow and Ohtani: The Dodgers’ Strategy for the Championship Series

The Los Angeles Dodgers have defined their pitching rotation for Games 3 and 4 of the National League Championship Series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Tyler Glasnow will start Game 3, followed by Shohei Ohtani in Game 4. The announcement was made by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts before Game 2 of the series. Glasnow had his last start on October 9, throwing six scoreless innings in Game 4 of the National League Division Series against the Philadelphia Phillies. For his part, Ohtani hasn’t pitched since October 4, where he allowed three runs in six innings against the Cincinnati Reds in the wild card round. Ohtani has been the designated hitter and lead-off hitter in every postseason game since then.

Shohei has been fine with rest. Potentially lines him up if we need a Game 7 out of the bullpen.

Glasnow has also participated in the bullpen this October, pitching 1 1/3 innings without allowing runs in relief of Ohtani in the game against Cincinnati.

For Game 3, we feel Tyler is on regular rest, so that also lines up. So all these things made sense.

Dave Roberts, Dodgers Manager
The Dodgers took the lead in the series with a 2-1 victory in Game 1 at American Family Field. Games 3 and 4 will be played at Dodger Stadium, as the defending champions seek to return to the World Series for the fifth time in the last nine seasons. The Brewers have not announced their pitching plans for games 3 or 4.
