MLB Figures Recognized with Outstanding Awards
In a night filled with recognitions, several MLB stars were awarded important prizes, highlighting their performance and achievements during the season.
Texas Rangers pitcher Jacob deGrom was named American League Comeback Player of the Year, while Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. earned the same recognition in the National League.
Edwin Díaz, of the New York Mets, was selected as the National League Reliever of the Year, and Aroldis Chapman, of the Boston Red Sox, was chosen as the American League Reliever of the Year.
Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers won the Edgar Martinez Award for Outstanding Designated Hitter for the fifth consecutive year, tying the record set by David Ortiz. In addition, Ohtani and Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees were recognized with their third Hank Aaron Awards as the best offensive players.
Matt Arnold, general manager of the Milwaukee Brewers, became the first repeat winner of the MLB Executive of the Year award.
DeGrom, after undergoing Tommy John surgery in June 2023, had a remarkable return, achieving a 12-8 record with a 2.97 ERA and 185 strikeouts in 172⅔ innings, earning him his fifth All-Star selection.
Acuña, who suffered a torn ACL on May 26, 2024, returned to the Braves and earned his fifth All-Star appearance, batting .290 with 21 home runs, 42 RBIs, and 9 stolen bases.
Díaz, who also won the Reliever of the Year award in 2018 and 2022, became the second player to win the award three times, along with Josh Hader. Díaz had an outstanding season with a 6-3 record, a 1.63 ERA, 28 saves in 31 opportunities, and 98 strikeouts in 66⅔ innings.
Chapman, in his eighth All-Star selection, had an outstanding performance with a 5-3 record, a 1.17 ERA, 32 saves in 34 opportunities, and 85 strikeouts in 61⅓ innings. In addition, Chapman won the award in 2019.
Ohtani, with an impressive season, batted .282 with 55 home runs, 102 RBIs, 20 stolen bases, 109 walks, and 146 runs scored. Judge, also a Hank Aaron Award winner in 2022 and 2024, led the Major Leagues with a .331 average, in addition to hitting 53 home runs and accumulating 114 RBIs, earning him the American League MVP award.
Arnold, with the Brewers, secured the third consecutive title of the National League Central Division. The executive joined the Brewers in 2015 and was promoted to general manager in November 2020.
