Jackson Chourio to the Injured List: More Problems Than Expected

The Milwaukee Brewers announced this Friday the inclusion of outfielder Jackson Chourio on the 10-day injured list. After the evaluations of his right hamstring injury, it was determined that the problem is more serious than initially thought. Chourio suffered the injury last Tuesday while running the bases after hitting a triple in the fifth inning. The decision to place him on the injured list was made effective retroactively to Wednesday.

It won’t be soon.

Pat Murphy, Brewers Manager
Brewers manager Pat Murphy indicated that the 21-year-old will likely be out of action for a period longer than the required minimum. “The diagnosis is a bit more severe than we initially believed. I’m not sure of the exact magnitude. We will have to focus on rehabilitation,” Murphy stated before the start of the series against Washington. According to Murphy, Chourio will receive a platelet-rich plasma injection to aid in his recovery. Up to the time of his injury, Chourio had a batting average of .276, with 17 home runs, 67 RBIs, and 18 stolen bases for the Brewers, who lead the league with a 64-44 record. To cover his absence, the team activated outfielder Brandon Lockridge, who was acquired on Thursday from San Diego in exchange for pitcher Nestor Cortes, infielder Jorge Quintana, and cash. Lockridge, with a .216 average, and five RBIs in 47 games with the Padres this season, was placed in the leadoff spot this Friday against the Nationals.
