Contreras and Arenado out of the Cardinals’ lineup against the Pirates
Catcher Willson Contreras and third baseman Nolan Arenado will not be in the St. Louis Cardinals’ lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Contreras suffered a contusion on his left hand during Tuesday’s 1-0 loss to the Pirates, after being hit by a pitch from Paul Skenes. Arenado will miss a second consecutive game due to an injury to the middle finger of his right hand.
The Cardinals manager, Oliver Marmol, said on Wednesday that he expects Contreras and Arenado to be able to play on Friday, when St. Louis begins a three-game series against the Cubs, leaders of the National League Central, in Chicago.
The Cardinals began Wednesday in third place in the division, four games behind the Cubs. St. Louis has a day off on Thursday.
Contreras, three-time All-Star, is batting .248 with 11 home runs in 82 games. Arenado, eight-time All-Star, has a batting average of .247 and 10 home runs in 80 games.
