Brandon Woodruff and the Milwaukee Brewers: A Victory with a Free Burger Flavor

Star pitcher Brandon Woodruff, known for his performances in key moments for the Milwaukee Brewers, felt additional pressure on Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. At stake was not only maintaining his perfect season record and extending Milwaukee’s winning streak to 12 games, but also free hamburgers for the whole city!

I was nervous. There was a little more at stake today. I wanted to win those burgers. Who doesn’t want a free burger?

The Brewers secured the victory with a score of 12-5, extending their streak to 12 consecutive games. The George Webb restaurant chain has promised free burgers if the local baseball team wins 17 consecutive games, a tradition that dates back to the days of the minor league Brewers in Milwaukee. The promotion was set to 13 games when the Braves arrived in Milwaukee in 1953, but they didn’t achieve the feat before moving to Atlanta in 1966. Webb modified the promotion to 12 games when the Brewers moved from Seattle in 1970. In 1987, the Brewers started the season with 13 consecutive victories, and more than 170,000 hamburgers were given away to celebrate. The Brewers achieved the feat for the second time in 2018, with eight wins at the end of the regular season and four wins in the playoffs. George Webb’s Vice President, Ryan Stamm, announced that the company plans to give away more than 100,000 burgers and will reveal the promotion details on Thursday afternoon.

It’s been chaos. The restaurants, they’re all talking about it. They’re excited. The team is playing really well. They’re unstoppable right now, so I guess they’re going to win tonight and we’re going to give away burgers. It’s been fun.
