Alex Bregman Open to Negotiating with the Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox’s third baseman, Alex Bregman, who joined the team this winter with a three-year, $120 million contract, is willing to discuss a new contract, according to his agent Scott Boras.

“I always tell the team, and Alex tells me to tell them, that we are always open to any conversation,” Boras affirmed.

Bregman, 31 years old, bats .299 with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs this season, but has been on the injured list since May 23 due to a right quadriceps strain.

“I’m sure he’d like to be back yesterday,” Boras said. “He’s a quick-reaction athlete, so we have to listen to the doctors, the trainers, and take our time to prepare him. It’s about being smart.”

Boston traded star hitter Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants earlier this month, after the relationship between Devers and the Red Sox deteriorated since spring training. The Red Sox have also praised Bregman for his help in mentoring prospects Kristian Campbell, Marcelo Mayer, and Roman Anthony, who have been promoted to the Major League level this season.

“They are at a point in their lives where things are really great,” Boras said about Bregman and his family. “Playing in Boston is something they really enjoy, and the community has been wonderful to them.”
