Jacob Wilson: Injury status is uncertain for the All-Star Game

The news about Athletics shortstop Jacob Wilson’s injured left hand is encouraging, but his participation in Tuesday’s All-Star Game remains in doubt.

That’s the question I can’t answer right now. It’s day to day. We hope he returns before then. There is pain. The positive is that he can put a bat in his hand.

Wilson, the starting rookie shortstop chosen by the fans for the All-Star, was hit on the hand in the first inning of Tuesday’s 10-1 victory over the Braves. X-rays ruled out a fracture, which relieved the Athletics, who hope Wilson won’t be out of action for long. Wilson has a batting average of .335 with nine home runs and 42 RBIs.

I think we got away with Jacob yesterday. Every time someone gets hit on the hand, it could have been worse.

It’s a big sigh of relief for sure. The anxiety of waiting the 15, 20 minutes after it happened. Nothing was broken. It could have been much worse, so everything is okay.

In other moves, infielder Miguel Andújar was removed from the 10-day injured list, and outfielder Colby Thomas was sent to Triple-A Las Vegas. Andújar was batting .296 with three home runs and 20 RBIs at the time of the injury.
