The Houston Astros have begun to make moves in the offseason market, securing the services of right-handed pitcher Nate Pearson with a one-year contract valued at $1.35 million.

Pearson, 29, spent most of the previous season with the Cubs organization, participating in 11 major league games. In those games, he allowed 15 runs in 14⅔ innings.

After spending most of the year in Triple-A, where he recorded an ERA of 2.22 in 38 games, he was released in September.

Selected in the first round of the 2017 draft by the Blue Jays, he was transferred to the Cubs in July 2024. In the second half of the season, he participated in 19 games.

His performance earned him a spot on the Opening Day roster in 2025, although he was eventually sent back to the minor leagues.

Recognized for his powerful arm, Pearson has yet to fully establish his role in the majors.

In his career, Pearson has a 9-6 record with an ERA of 5.17 in 123 games, including six as a starter.
