Right-handed pitcher Alek Manoah and the Los Angeles Angels have agreed to a one-year contract for $1.95 million, according to a reliable source.

Manoah, 27 years old, was released by the Atlanta Braves last month and now joins the Angels with a guaranteed Major League contract.

Previously considered a Cy Young contender with the Toronto Blue Jays, Manoah has experienced difficulties since his standout 2022 season, where he recorded a 16-7 record with a 2.24 ERA.

The following season, he was demoted to the rookie league after a problematic start in 2023, with a 1-7 record and an ERA of 6.36.

In July, Manoah returned to the Blue Jays’ roster, achieving a 2-2 record with a 4.91 ERA in seven starts. However, after being sent to Triple-A in August of that year, he did not pitch again at any level.

In 2024, before undergoing elbow surgery that ended his season, Manoah had a 1-2 record with a 3.70 ERA in five starts, pitching a total of 24 and a third innings. After his rehabilitation in Triple-A Buffalo, the Blue Jays cut Manoah shortly before the playoffs.

In seven starts for the Bisons, Manoah had a 1-1 record with a 2.97 ERA, allowing six home runs from the 27 hits he received.
