Los Angeles Angels have acquired the experienced infielder and outfielder LaMonte Wade Jr. and cash from the San Francisco Giants, as announced on Sunday. In exchange for the 31-year-old player, the Angels will send cash or a player to be named to the Giants. Wade had been with the San Francisco team since 2021, but was designated for assignment on Wednesday.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Angels designated right-handed pitcher Michael Darrell-Hicks for assignment.
This season, Wade batted .167 with one home run and 15 RBIs for the Giants. His struggles culminated in a 2-for-17 performance on the team’s recent road trip. Last season, Wade hit a high of .260 and gained a reputation in San Francisco for his key performances in the final moments of games.Currently, the Angels have Nolan Schanuel at first base and six outfielders on their Major League roster, although some have positional flexibility.
It is worth noting that Angels general manager Perry Minasian and Giants general manager Zack Minasian are brothers.
