The Skins Game Returns to the Golf Calendar with New Features
The long-awaited Skins Game returns to the world of golf after a 17-year absence, bringing exciting changes. This emblematic event, which will bring together some of the most outstanding figures in golf, promises a renewed experience for fans. The tournament is scheduled for the Friday after Thanksgiving, maintaining the tradition of its start in 1983. It will feature the participation of six of the world’s most important golfers, including Ryder Cup and FedEx Cup champion Tommy Fleetwood, U.S. Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley, along with Justin Thomas and Xander Schauffele.Event Updates
The Skins Game moves from the California desert to South Florida and will be broadcast on Prime Video, instead of traditional television. The competition will take place at Panther National, a new course in Florida, inaugurated two years ago and designed by Thomas and Jack Nicklaus. Bradley, Schauffele and Thomas reside in the area. The Skins Game, which debuted in 1983 with the participation of the biggest golf stars, was last played in 2008, with K.J. Choi as the winner. This event was a fundamental pillar of what was known as the “silly season” in golf. In its first edition, in 1983, it featured Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson and Gary Player, with Vin Scully as commentator, and was held during the Thanksgiving weekend in California.
The new Skins Game will maintain a similar format. Each player will compete for the cash prize of each hole, and the prize will accumulate in case of a tie. The main innovation is an “inverse purse”, where the four players start with $1 million and their winnings or losses depend on each hole won or lost. The coverage will begin at 9 a.m. This is the second golf event for Prime, which last month announced that it would stream two additional hours of weekday coverage at the Masters.
