Sergio García Withdraws from the Irish Open After Ryder Cup Disappointment

Spanish golfer Sergio García has decided to withdraw from this week’s Irish Open, according to reports. The main reason behind this decision is the emotional impact of not being selected for the European Ryder Cup team. García, a legend in the Ryder Cup, was not chosen by captain Luke Donald for the confrontation against the United States at Bethpage Black. This decision, although not entirely unexpected, has deeply affected the golfer, who has been a key participant in ten editions of the competition.

I felt like I really wanted to be part of that team, and mentally it was tough (playing at the Irish Open). I didn’t want to go and not be fully involved in the tournament, so I decided to take some time off and spend it with family, do some things outside of golf and recharge the batteries.

García explained that he needed some time to recover mentally and focus on other activities. One of those activities included attending the US Open tennis tournament, where he witnessed the victory of his compatriot Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals. After Alcaraz’s victory, it was revealed that they plan to play golf together.
