Jon Rahm and Shane Lowry Return with Difficulties After the Ryder Cup

Madrid – Renowned golfer Jon Rahm and Shane Lowry faced notable challenges in their reappearance after their outstanding participation in the Ryder Cup. Rahm even had a brief exchange with a marshal during the Spanish Open on Thursday. After a shot that left him in the left rough on the 8th hole, Rahm expressed his frustration: “What a day, what a day”, followed by an exclamation. The marshal who marked his ball tried to encourage him, to which Rahm firmly responded.

Please don’t tell me it’s okay. Thank you.

Despite a couple of bogeys, Rahm closed his round with a 72 (+1). He achieved an eagle on the 14th hole, but his performance included only one birdie and four bogeys.

Lowry, who sealed the European victory in the Ryder Cup, had a round of 75 (+4), with six bogeys and two birdies. The provisional leaders of the tournament are Marco Penge and Frederic Lacroix, both with a 66 (-5). Rahm seeks his fourth title at the Spanish Open, surpassing Seve Ballesteros as the most successful golfer in the tournament since 1972. The Spaniard has won in 2018, 2019 and 2022, and was runner-up last year. The tournament offers an automatic spot for next year’s Masters and Open Championship to the winner. The world’s number one tennis player, Carlos Alcaraz, was also present, following Rahm in the first round.
