Adverse Weather Halts Second Round of Walmart NW Arkansas Championship

ROGERS, Ark. – Intense rainfall and dangerous weather conditions forced the LPGA Tour to suspend the second round of the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship on Saturday, before the golfers even began their participation. This has generated uncertainty about the possibility of completing the event in its entirety.

The tournament, which is already the shortest on the calendar with 54 holes, could face a long wait or even the reduction of more holes.

Due to heavy rain, no player was able to complete more than three holes. The LPGA announced that it will determine on Sunday morning whether Pinnacle Country Club is playable. If so, the second round will resume at 7:10 a.m. CDT.

Sarah Schmelzel and Minami Katsu were tied at the top of the leaderboard with a score of 8 under par. Alison Lee, in her third tournament since returning after giving birth to her son at the end of April, made a birdie and joined them at 8 under par before play was stopped.

The LPGA will report before the resumption of the second round whether the tournament will be reduced to 36 holes or if they will try to complete the scheduled 54 holes. Next week, the LPGA has no tournament scheduled.

Stacy Lewis shot the best score at the inaugural tournament in 2007, when she was still an amateur. However, rain shortened the event to only 18 holes, so it was not considered official.
