Arkansas Women’s Golf Tournament Suspended Due to Bad Weather

Rogers, Arkansas – The second round of the LPGA Tour’s Walmart NW Arkansas Championship was suspended on Saturday due to heavy rain and dangerous weather conditions. Uncertainty surrounds how much of the event will be able to be completed. The tournament, already the shortest on the calendar with 54 holes, could face a long day or a prolonged wait for the golfers. Due to the rain, no player completed more than three holes. The LPGA will announce on Sunday morning if Pinnacle Country Club is playable, and the second round will resume at 7:10 a.m. CDT. Sarah Schmelzel and Minami Katsu were tied for the lead at 8 under par. Alison Lee, in her third tournament since returning after giving birth to her son at the end of April, made a birdie and joined them at 8 under par before play was stopped. The LPGA will decide before the second round resumes whether the tournament will be played over 36 holes or if they will attempt the full 54 holes. The LPGA has no events scheduled for next week. Stacy Lewis had the best score at the inaugural tournament in 2007 as an amateur, but rain shortened the event to 18 holes, and it was not considered official.
