Brooks Koepka Ties for Lead at French Open with a Spectacular Round

American golfer Brooks Koepka, winner of five majors, staged an impressive comeback on Saturday at the French Open. Koepka achieved five consecutive birdies in the second half of the course, culminating in a round of 65 strokes, six under par. This performance secured him a tie at the top of the leaderboard, with the hope of achieving his first victory in over a year. Min Woo Lee also had an outstanding performance, signing a card of 68 strokes and tying with Koepka at the top with a total of 11 under par (202 strokes). Both golfers lead by one stroke a group of pursuers, including Michael Kim, another American player participating in the tournament. This is the third consecutive week that Koepka has competed on the European Tour, after failing to make the cut at the Irish Open and the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. In addition, he failed to make the cut at three of the four major tournaments this year.

I feel like my game has been going in the right direction. The results haven’t come, but I feel much closer. I’m happy with the work I’ve done in the last few months, and although it hasn’t been reflected, I hope to have the opportunity to win tomorrow.

Koepka attributed his excellent round at the Golf de Saint-Nom-La-Bretèche to his good performance in putts. In total, he achieved eight birdies, although he closed his participation with a bogey on the 18th hole, a par 3, after missing a six-foot putt. Lee, for his part, secured his first title on the PGA Tour this year by winning the Houston Open, although he did not manage to advance beyond one week in the FedEx Cup playoffs. Guido Migliozzi (66) of Italy and Marcus Armitage (71) of England joined Kim in the group that is one stroke behind.
