Arkansas Golf Tournament Suspended Due to Adverse Weather

ROGERS, Ark. – The second round of the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship on the LPGA Tour was suspended on Saturday due to heavy rain and dangerous weather conditions. This has created uncertainty about the possibility of completing the event in its entirety. The tournament, which is already the shortest on the calendar with 54 holes, could face an extensive day or more waiting time for the players. Due to heavy rain, no player was able to complete more than three holes. The LPGA announced that it will assess the playability of Pinnacle Country Club on Sunday morning, and the second round will resume at 7:10 a.m. CDT. Sarah Schmelzel and Minami Katsu were tied for the lead at 8-under par. Alison Lee, in her third tournament after returning after giving birth to her son at the end of April, birdied and joined them at 8-under par before play was stopped. The LPGA will decide before the resumption of the second round whether the tournament will be reduced to 36 holes or if it will attempt to complete the scheduled 54 holes. The following week, the LPGA has no events scheduled. Stacy Lewis had the best score at the inaugural tournament in 2007, when she was an amateur, but rain reduced the event to 18 holes and it was not considered official.
