Brooks Koepka seeks victory at the French Open

American golfer Brooks Koepka, a five-time major champion, is at the top of the French Open after an impressive round on Saturday. Koepka achieved five consecutive birdies in the second half of the course, finishing with a score of 65 strokes, six under par. This performance puts him in first position, seeking his first victory in over a year. He ties at the top with Min Woo Lee, who also recorded an outstanding round of 68 strokes. The competition is intense, with a group of golfers nipping at their heels, just one stroke away. Among them is Michael Kim, another American participating in the tournament. Koepka has been competing on the European tour for three consecutive weeks, after failing to make the cut at the Irish Open and the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. In addition, he failed to make the cut in three of the four major tournaments this year. Koepka’s last victory was in August 2024 at the LIV Golf League, in Greenbrier, West Virginia.

I feel like my game has been going in the right direction. The results haven’t been there. I feel much closer. I’m happy with the work I’ve done in the last few months, and nothing has been proven, so I hope to have the opportunity to win tomorrow.

Koepka attributed his good performance at the Golf de Saint-Nom-La-Bretèche to his effective putting game. He had eight birdies in the round, although he closed with a bogey on the 18th hole, a par 3, missing a six-foot putt. Lee, for his part, secured his first PGA Tour title this year at the Houston Open. Guido Migliozzi from Italy and Marcus Armitage from England are also in the fight for the title, both one stroke behind the leaders.
