Garrick Higgo leads the Sanderson Farms Championship

Golfer Garrick Higgo demonstrated his skill by keeping the ball in play and taking advantage of birdie opportunities, achieving a score of 66 strokes (-6) in the second round of the Sanderson Farms Championship. This Fall Series event represents a fresh start for the South African player. Higgo chained three consecutive birdies down the stretch of his round at the Country Club of Jackson, including an impressive shot from the bunker on the 15th hole, which left the ball a few centimeters from the hole for an easy birdie. With a total of 131 strokes (-13), Higgo is at the top of the leaderboard, one stroke ahead of Eric Cole (67) and Taylor Montgomery (63). Montgomery shone with nine birdies in ten holes, highlighting his performance on the course. The tournament is crucial, as only the top 100 players at the end of the Fall Series will retain their full PGA Tour card. Cole, for his part, achieved seven additional birdies on a sunny and calm afternoon, securing his place in the final group and seeking his first title on the PGA Tour. Danny Walker (68) is two strokes away, in an important week for his aspirations. Vince Whaley and Tom Kim are also close, three strokes behind the leader.

I’ve made a lot of cuts and I feel like I’ve played well in the last six months. It’s getting harder here, and you need those big finishes, and I don’t feel like I’ve had that.

Higgo, winner of a PGA Tour tournament this year, suffered an injury that affected his season. After considering hip surgery, he opted for a change in his training routine.

It didn’t hurt in my swing, but walking made it a lot worse and then it pinched the next day. So I just figured out how to avoid that. I’ve changed the way I train, being a bit smarter with it, I’d say.
