Padraig Harrington and Roger Maltbie Engage in Heated Discussion at the U.S. Senior Open

A video showing a heated discussion between Padraig Harrington and NBC reporter Roger Maltbie has caused a stir at the U.S. Senior Open. The controversy erupted during the first round of the tournament, when Harrington, visibly annoyed, berated Maltbie for not helping him look for a lost ball.

“You never stand around watching someone look for a ball on a golf course,” Harrington told Maltbie, according to the video captured by a local television reporter.

The incident occurred on the 15th hole, where Harrington’s tee shot ended up in a wooded area. After an unsuccessful three-minute search, Harrington had to return to the tee for his third shot, eventually achieving a bogey. Despite this setback, Harrington managed to finish the weekend tied for the lead. Maltbie, who played on the PGA Tour in the 1970s and 1980s, explained that his role as a reporter prevented him from participating in the search for the ball. One day after the incident, Harrington and Maltbie had an exchange near the scoring area.

“So I should have disobeyed my producer?”, Maltbie is heard saying in the video.
