Charlie Woods Seeks a Spot on the Junior Ryder Cup Team
Charlie Woods, son of the legendary golfer Tiger Woods, is in a prominent position to secure a place on the American team for the Junior Ryder Cup. The 16-year-old is tied for second place at the PGA Junior Championship, following a standout third round with a 66 (-5), affected by rain, at the Ackerman-Allen Course of the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Indiana. Woods has a total of 202 strokes (-12) for the week. Players compete for two automatic spots on the Junior Ryder Cup team, which will face the European team from September 23-25 at Nassau Country Club and Bethpage Black in New York. There is also the possibility of a captain’s pick, although Woods, ranked 20th in the latest American Junior Golf Association rankings, seems unlikely to be chosen. Woods has never participated in this event.Woods experienced a mixed round on Thursday. He achieved three consecutive birdie streaks and a total of nine birdies, but also added four bogeys.It was a lot of fun. I had a pretty good chip on 16, but I just enjoyed being out there, having fun, and hopefully I’ll have a good chance to win tomorrow.

He missed the cut at the recent U.S. Junior Amateur and has not yet confirmed his college commitment. Lunden Esterline leads the Junior PGA with 19 under par, after a third round of 66. Esterline, from Andover, Kansas, is committed to Auburn for 2027. Pennson Badgett is tied with Woods for second place after a round of 67 on Thursday. Badgett, from Pilot Mountain, North Carolina, is committed to Tennessee for 2026.My round was quite up and down and gave me a heart attack there. But nine birdies is pretty good. A couple of three putts, I made some mistakes today, but overall a pretty solid round. Good position heading into tomorrow.
